Angela Melfi

Director of Operations

Client Success Comes First

I’m driven to create the most meaningful client experience for every client who calls, emails, or visits our office. I go home happy when clients walk out of a financial plan meeting laughing and nodding their heads in relief and excitement. I know we’ve made a difference. I can see they feel more financially confident.

As Director of Operations, I work behind the scenes to build a strong business framework for our company longevity and client service quality. Operational stability helps my team realize their full potential. They can focus on what they do best for our clients, whether that is financial advising, investment management, or customer support.

In my day-to-day, I oversee our business operations, including bookkeeping, billing, vendor management, regulatory and licensing requirements, human resources, and facilities management. I most enjoy designing and implementing our business vision, focusing on marketing analysis and long-term planning. I’m currently using the EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System) for strategic planning and execution, and technology development.

A Chance to Be the Best

I knew Jeff Platt from a previous wealth management firm, where I worked as a Client Service Administrator. I became his right-hand person for all things organizational, entering his trades, documenting client meetings, and preparing needed paperwork.

I quickly came to respect his knowledge and expertise. We also share a similar sense of humor that made going to work fun.

When Jeff first contacted me about joining Platt Wealth Management, I was already considering new opportunities. My daughter had recently moved away to attend Berkeley Law. Her success inspired me to challenge myself to a new level of expertise. So, I updated my Linked In profile and changed my status to “Open for new opportunities.”

The next day there was a note from Jeff saying, “I am starting a wealth management firm, and you immediately came to mind. I don’t know what your status is, but I’d love to sit and chat with you.”

Curious, I met with him for lunch, and he made me an offer I couldn’t refuse: to help him build the best advisory firm in San Diego. I told him I’d take the weekend to think it over, but excitement trumped negotiation. I emailed him that Saturday, “Let’s do this thing.”

I’m a Sci Fi Nerd at Heart

I worked for fifteen years in the technology industry, first as a designer, then as a user experience architect. I used to spend my days dreaming of exciting ways to get website users to the information they needed. As I grew confident with the website development lifecycle, I moved into project management. I translated customer visions to design layout to program code. I helped clients through all development milestones to ensure the mechanics of their ideas viable. We charted brand integration across user experience, friendly monetization, and best marketing practices. I advised on how to maximize automation and get real returns from a data-driven platform design.

Advancing to Director of Operations, I designed a proprietary platform for intra-office collaboration and KPI reporting. I made decisions on staffing, finance, and business growth. I had a great time traveling to the Philippines and Korea to open and staff a back-office branch of designers and programmers. Everyday was new adventure building powerful web and mobile applications.

I experienced the internet revolution on the forefront, evolving a two-person graphic design company into a leading application development business. Working on hundreds of websites and applications, I gained an education in how diverse enterprises operate. I learned how to apply design thinking not just to web and mobile application building but as management hacks.

I’m still fascinated by the intersection between people, technology, business, and design. An avid reader of science fiction since high school, I look forward to wielding the tools of Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning for the improvement of life.

Creativity Achieves Dreams

I started my career as an art teacher. I taught Advanced Drawing and Painting and Digital Design at Mira Mesa High School. I also participated in the Laguna Art Show for several summers as a juried member.

I still paint whenever I have a chance, hiking up and down San Diego backcountry with my plein air easel. Looking over sage and scrub, I can let my mind wander and open to solutions and new ideas.

Although I don’t teach or show professionally anymore, I credit my art education for my operational problem-solving skills and my ability to carefully listen and observe.

Design Thinking for Human Centric Solutions

Coming into the financial advisory sphere, I hope to bring some of my experience with and use of design thinking as a way to improve our client services and experiences.
